Wally's foot rolls slightly around on the end table. He looked over to his side flashing a big smile at his fiancé as the questions started coming. This was the other side to the business that he enjoyed. While he was all business inside the ropes, interviews and podcast like these allowed him a chance to speak his mind without the added happenings of speaking in front of a large crowd. He was on Piledrivers in Pajamas, a funny little pod that had their guest get comfortable in their jammies as they asked the need-to-know questions. He was working with Pavel and Raulo, he'd met them and had the chance to arrange all of this during his last New Kingdom Pro match.
They'd be tackling everything from Sussex, to NKP, his recent SAP signing, other WCS events, and even some FGA rumors. The pod came with its own youtube channel, where they'd get the chance to hang around a particular highlight talent and focus in on their matches and careers. Wally felt bless to be picked out for such a big boost in his career. Granted there were plenty of men and women who deserved it more than he did, but Wally felt as if this selection was well earned.
Tonight was the first night under the microscope, and he felt that it was only better if he had McKenna doing this with him. They both kicked back on their spread. Looking over into the cameras as Raulo's gruff voice took over.
Raulo: "So Wally... lets talk Sussex for a bit."
Wally: "Yeah we can definitely do that."
"The company is reaching the end of its first year in operation. We've seen the school get many kids coming in and out of there. What's your take on how 2018 will do for SCCW?"
"We're ummm... We're really looking forward to another year. I think the gym has done a great job establishing itself a factory for churning out great workers. You look at what e have, and what everyone in Sussex is doing. Ya got Dickie and Vega working FGA shows. GBH is doing Sakura and NKP. I'm doing NKP... We just have a whole gym of people ready to get that next spot, and we're coming to take them."
"Who would you say is the centerpiece for the company?"
"Wow ummm... That's like such a bold question."
Wally laughs slightly as he takes his hand and rubs the back of his head gently. McKenna takes out her cell phone checking a few things away. Gathering up his thoughts he knew he had to play this question right, and the only way to do that was through honesty.
"No one."
"No one?"
"Nope."
"Explain..."
"Well the company is packed with talent right, its so much that we're literally squeezing each other to death with how everyones trying to race to the top. It's really a next guy up mentality. We all kind of lean on each other like that. There might be someone who you can't stand in the back... And at the end of the day you can be all like...'Well fuck that guy or whoever' but when its showtime its bam bam bam bam, good match after good match after good match...
And I think in a way we all respect each other for that. We all have different reasons for being here, but the summation of it all is that we're in SCCCW to learn and get better and eventually find something we can turn into greatness."
"That's a very insightful take... Alright, lets talk championships..."
"Ughhhh..."
Wally throws his hands over his face in a bit of exaggerated anguish. He sets his head on McKenna's shoulder as she look up from her phone to gently run her fingers through his hair.
McKenna: "We're still working through that."
"Sorry Wally I have to ask... So Overload... You and Murph... What happened?"
"She tried to kill any chance of Wally Jr."
"Oh shut up."
"Yeah... I can't really explain it outside of she cheated. Its sad too, Murph is a great wrestler she shouldn't have to resort to something like that. It only tells me that you're so ashamed of getting outworked that you have to create an unfair advantage for yourself to have a chance...
And I know the comment sections gonna fill with 'Well by any means necessary right?', you guys are either Patriots fans or you just don't understand... She didn't have to do what she did... If she wanted an advantage, she could have worked as hard as I did... in the gym, watching tape, staying late during sessions, coming early as hell... everything.
I came into the match with every intention of proving that I was the better wrestler... So even though I don't have the belt, I think everyone knows that I'm SCCW's rising star."
"So what comes next?"
"Ria, Dupont, and Goro..."
"I meant somewhere closer to if you were going to press for a rematch against Murph?"
"I don't book the matches and I don't try to book the matches either... I take everything one step at a time, so if its in the cards for me then great... If not, I won't let that stop me from what I'm doing. I think the people are really into what I'm about... They like the effort and hustle I give, so I'll be content with that... Besides the Hudson should be coming up, and that's something I've wanted a chance at."
"Oh the Hudson? Any reason why that's caught your eye?"
"Well when you look at it, I think theres a tremendous amount of respect that comes with getting your hands on that trophy. It's not just SCCW people, it's guys on the outside trying to win it too. You can look at the list of cup winners and you can't really say that any of them are mediocre wrestlers... That trophy puts your name alongside good company."
"Well would their be anyone in particular you'd want to face for it?"
"Well lets take this thing slow first. I want to win my match at SLAM 19 first before I start calling my shot. I already looked like an asshole when I couldn't finish off Murph, so now... I gonna sit back, rack up myself some more victories... And we'll see who's around to do what."
